Key Responsibilities
As a Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Apprentice, you will:
- Prepare Vehicles for Painting: Conduct vehicle preparation, including sanding down panels using different grades of sandpaper and a dual-action sander.
- Mask Vehicles: Accurately mask vehicles in readiness for painting, ensuring all surfaces are adequately protected.
- Spray and Finish Vehicles: Execute precise spray painting and finishing techniques on new and used cars/light commercial vehicles to meet the highest quality standards.
- Conduct Filler Work and Repairs: Perform filler work and execute small repairs efficiently.
- Ensure Quality: Complete vehicles to an exceptional standard, ensuring each finished vehicle is defect-free and meets both company and customer expectations.
- Inspect Finished Vehicles: Thoroughly inspect painted vehicles to confirm perfect colour match and flawless finish, adhering to industry standards.
Learning and Development
This apprenticeship is crafted with various learning styles in mind to ensure full engagement and preparedness for the End-Point Assessment (EPA). The IMI solution offers a comprehensive learning experience, ensuring you gain expertise in:
- General principles of spray-painting technology
- Paint composition and mixing techniques
- Advanced paint spraying methods
Who Should Apply?
This new standard is designed for individuals who would typically pursue the Level 3 Vehicle Body and Paint – Body Refinishing framework. If you have significant training or practical experience, you may achieve the required level of competence more swiftly.
Working Environment
Location: Collision repair workshop, smart repair workshop, or mobile repair micro-business
Team: Collaborate closely with fully qualified Paint Technicians to achieve the highest quality standards.
Apprenticeship Duration
The apprenticeship is a 36-month program, with the expectation that it will take three years for most apprentices to reach the required competency level in the workplace. However, those with significant prior training and practical experience may complete the program in less time.
